Analysis Of The Affordable Care Act - 1047 Words
To the Editor: Under the Affordable Care Act, health insurance companies cannot refuse anyone coverage or charge a higher amount for any health problems that existed before a new health coverage plan begins. However, with the Republican agenda to ââ¬Å"repeal and replaceâ⬠Obamacare, coverage for pre-existing conditions could be on the chopping block. The proposed Graham-Cassidy Health Care Bill gives flexibility to the states to design their own health care systems. With this, states could waive the provision that caps how much insurance companies can charge; thus, they could charge those with pre-existing conditions more (Collins, 2017). Furthermore, this plan would also allow states to waive certain essential health benefits coveredâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦However, none of the proposed Republican plans have brought forth legitimate plans to solve these issues. The Graham-Cassidy Health Care Bill would discontinue the individual mandate that requires everyone to have health insurance, or else pay a fine. This was implemented under the Affordable Care Act to bring more healthy people into insurance plans to lower the premiums for everyone on the plan. The Republican plans propose a continuous coverage requirement to keep healthy people on insurance. One idea is to charge a 30% higher premium for a year to those that had a 63-day insurance lapse over the previous year. According to Robertson (2017), ââ¬Å"the waiver as proposed in the new amendment would enable states to instead allow insurers to price plans based on health status for those without continuous coverage. So they could be charged more than the 30% surcharge.â⬠However, those that are the most likely to have a lapse are the lower socioeconomic classes, but they are also unlikely to rejoin the marketplace because they cannot afford the increased premiums. Ezra Klein (2017) explains how the individual mandate was already too weak to bring enough healthy individuals into the marketplace, but he also states that the continuous coverage requirement is weaker. It could lead to a death spiral, which happens as premiums rise and a group of healthy people leaves the insurance plan causing premiums to rise again and another group of healthy individuals toShow MoreRelatedAnalysis Of The Affordable Care Act810 Words à |à 4 Pages The title of the article found in the latest releases of the Kaiser Family Foundation website is Ten Ways That the House American Health Care Act Could Affect Women. Analysis Of The Poem Siegfried Sassoon - 1029 Words
Poetry is a powerful expression of human experience that can impact political actions and have major repercussions on a global scale. Siegfried Sassoon was a poet that realized the true power and capabilities of poetry and what it could accomplish. Sassoon used his gift of poetry to advance humanityââ¬â¢s views on war and help them better understand the terrifying imprint it left on the world. Siegfried Sassoon is remembered for the fury that his poems encompassed. He wrote poetry during World War I and the brutality of trench warfare. He constantly satirized and belittled politicians, the wealthy, generals, and even the masses for their naive view on war. Sassoon was born into an immensely wealthy family that had a monumental fortune, his family was often referred to as ââ¬Å"Rothschildââ¬â¢s of the Eastâ⬠. Motivated by patriotism and propaganda Sassoon joined the British Army to fight in World War I. He was a successful soldier who was capable of carrying out his duties and was even awarded a Military Cross for bringing back a wounded soldier through heavy fire. However, Sassoon was left traumatized by the war. He became belligerent and rebellious telling his commanding officers, I believe that this War is being deliberately prolonged by those who have the power to end it. He began to see that the war was being fought for shallow reasons and personal gain rather than achieving some type of betterment for his countrymen. Industry Innovation Modeland Sustainable Business Development
Question: Discuss about the Industry Innovation Modeland Sustainable Business Development. Answer: Introduction: A Business model is defined as a fundamental processthat drives significant changes and insights in the business processes, systems, structures, and organizational policiesfor achieving the organizational mission, corporate goals, and long-term objectives. On the other hand, Disruption means innovation that creates value network and new market opportunities by disrupting/replacing the current industry/market opportunities and value network. Thedisruptive business models bring all business components or strategic business units together in order to create innovation and creativity to the industry/product/service. The disruptive business models are greatly focused on designing, creating, refining, disinter mediating, restructuring, optimizing, and reengineering the product/service/industry/function(Afuah, 2015). Both business model innovation(BMI) and disruption are interconnected and dependent on eachother for achieving thesustainable business growth by ensuring the attainment of organ izational goals andbusiness objectives. For this essay, Apple Inc. is selected as an industry that is the top innovative technological company in the world. Apple is known for incorporating the significant changes in its products and production process in order to attain the stainable competitive advantage in the highly competitive industry. Apple utilizes the technological breakthroughs, engineering, unique patents, and scientific experiments and inventions to produce the mobile phones, laptops and other technological products with the unique features and advanced configurations. Silicon Valley is the business model that is used by Apple to advance innovation, creativity, and modernization of the business processes, structures, and products (Harward Business School, 2010). Silicon Valley Business Modelis the best example of the disruptive business model innovation that is being used by Apple to drive innovation, creativity, and modesty to the products, services, industry structures, processes, and systems. This disruptive business model of innovation is fundamentally based on two business aspects including entrepreneurship and innovation. This business model of Disruption is gaining popularity because it not only focuses on generating revenues but also on creating value to the firm. This business Model innovation is composed of three elements including value proposition, innovation and operating model. Innovation is an important element of the SVB model that drives modifications, creativity, and innovation in the organization of applebytransforming the innovative ideas into thecustomers quality expectations and values. It creates extra value to the firm by distinguishing the products and services from the competitors products. Another element, Value Propositiondetermines the success of Apple in the high-tech industry by adding value to products and servicesof Apple in order to enhance the sustainable product performance in the marketplace(Osterwalderand Pigneur, 2013). This element targets the high potential customers by considering three focused dimensions- target segment (recognition of customers needs and expectations), customer satisfaction (through offering the valued products), and revenue model (generating revenues through products or service offering). The third element, operating model is associated with meeting the customers needs through offering the productsby ensuring th ree criteria- cost model, value chain, and organization. Industry Innovation Model(IIM) is the business model that was disrupted by Silicon Valley Model to attain the sustainable business performance in the competitive industry. The Industry Innovation Model was used by Apple to drive innovation and customer insights in the industry. This model was used by the firm to drive innovation to the industry vale chain of Apple by transforming the business processes, modifying the products, modernizing the systems, and moving into new sectors. This model was useful to develop new ideas as well as identifying/leveraging the unique assets of the company. The Industry Innovation Model (existing business model) can be differentiated from the Silicon Valley Business Model Innovation (new business model) on the basis of objectivity, acceptability, sustainability, and adaptability. The Silicon Valley business model drives flexibility, creativity and innovations to modernize the organizational processes, structures, and subsystem. It enables the organization to attain the high-growth success in the competitive environment by adapting the organization to the dynamic market changes and growing environmental obligations. While, on the other hand, the Industry Innovation model creates innovation but fails to deliver the sustainability and adaptability in response to the environmental complications and market forces. The Silicon Valley Model is more effective than the Industry Innovation Model because it is highly committed to deliver values rather than making money. While on the other hand, the Industry Innovation Model is more focused on genera ting revenue rather than creating value to the firm(Saebi and Foss, 2015). The IIM is a type of classic model based on scientific breakthrough and technological inventions to bring innovation in the industry. While, the Silicon model of business innovationis a mix of both classic and unconventional model that uses the technological and scientific breakthrough, incremental and adaptive approach to advance innovation in the organization. The Industry Innovation Model is the existing business model, disrupted by the Silicon Valley Business model to drive innovation, creativity and adaptability in the industry in response to the environmental changes and market dynamics. There are several reasons behind the Industry Innovation Model disrupted by the Silicon Valley Model. Firstly, the Silicon Valley model drives significant changes and innovation in the business planning and strategy of Apple for attaining the sustainable economic development and long-term growth of the business that is not in the case of Industry Innovation Model (IIM) because it drives innovation but not enable the organization adapt to attain sustainability in response to environmental fluctuations and market forces. The silicon business model enables the company to strive to attain the progressive business growth in the high-tech environment and to maximize liquidity by beating the competitors product planning and business strategy (Harward Business Press, 2013). It enables the firm to take advantage of both existing and future market opportunities by identify its production and financial strength, comparative understanding, market share and product positioning, resource capability and competences. The Silicon Valleys elite designers, engineers, financiers, developers, and programmers provide the operational effectiveness, production efficiency, and excellence in invention and discovery. This model delivers invention, discovery, and re-engineering to transform or modify the existing products and services into new products and services with the latest features and configurations. So, all these reasons prove the justification for the disruption of the Industry Innovation model by the Silicon Valley model. From the above discussions, it can be concluded that the disruptive business modelsare applied by the business industries to make significant changes in the product planning, business process, structures, and systems by ensuring the creativity, disruption, and innovation. The disruptive business models innovation are important for the business industries from the future perspective for the sustainable business development and long-term financial growth of the businesses by imposing new ideas and greater customer experiences. The disruptive business models are also important for the future business growth by enhancing the organizational effectiveness and efficiency after reducing the operating costs. Along with this, the disruptive model innovations are significant because these incorporate the new ways of re-investing and redesigning the value proposition and revenue model to respond to the market forces, environmental flexibilities, and changing customersdemands(Augeneder, 2014). The Silicon Valley is a good example of disruptive business model innovation, widely used by the business enterprises (small/large or logal/global) from the last two decades to drive sustainableeconomic development and long-term business growth by adapting changes in response to environmentalobligations and market forces. The Silicon Valley Model prepares the industry/product/service for the future challenges by driving significant changesand innovation for creating a coordinated proposition or balance fit between the organizational sustainable development and the competitive marketplace. This disruptive model of innovationprovides the firms new business opportunity and value creation by disrupting the existing market opportunity and value creation. References Afuah, A. The news and media have helped open up peoples eyes to see how easy it is for somebody to cheat on a social networking site like Faceable/Teller. There have been photos put in the media that contain private messages of a husband or wife asking another person to have an affair with them or flirtatious messages and pictures sent back and forth. Another form of cheating that is only made easier by the use of Social Medias Is cheating on Issues such as homework, papers, and work. A recent study found that 85. % of students use a social networking site. They may find somebody who has previously taken the course who can give those copies of all of the old assignments and exams or they may find someone who is willing to do the work for them in a particular class. There are even groups and applications designed to help make finding these people easier. Effects on Teen Social interactions Soci al Medal has had a huge Impact on the way people interact with each other. Before the Internet and social networking sites, peoples mall forms of immunization were telephones, letters, and most commonly face-to-face interactions. Teens have had the largest impact on social interactions with the new age of technology. A study completed about social anxiety and technology shows that tens social interactions are greatly affected by the use of technology and sites. Seventy-four percent of high school students that participated in the study claim to use a social networking site. The study has suggested that using modern technology with others face-to-face. The study also show a lower level of stress when the teens ere interacting with people online (Pierce, 2009). Teens are in the stage of their lives where they are still developing socially and learning how to interact with others. The more a teen communicates with others using a form of technology, the less chances they have to communicate face-to-face and develop strong personable skills. The teens who are using networking sites and testing as their main sources of communication are feeling more anxious when interacting face-to-face because they have not yet developed all of the necessary skills to do so. Social Media and Privacy There are many privacy issues surrounding the Social Medias. Recently, these privacy issues have affected newly graduating college students. It has become a common trend for Jobs to invade applicants privacy by using their social accounts to pass judgments about them. This has caught many off guard, as the employers have been asking for their social network passwords during the interview process. Employers may take the perspective that they need to know not only their potential employees work-related skills and abilities but also the characteristics and traits that indicate he persons capability of being a good, reliable employee. Many employers claim that Social Network provides insight about those traits (Pike, 1). Sources are now suggesting advice to people searching for Jobs. Their advice is to limit what you are posting on social networks. Another privacy issue that has come about is the tagging feature the social network has. People on Social Networks have the ability to tag others to photos and other posts without their knowledge. These tagged photos and posts then appear on the tagged persons page. This can create issues of privacy. There have been plenty of times people have been out placing or doing certain actions they would not want to be posted. They are posted anyway without their knowledge. Cyber-Bullying Another popular issue with Social Media is cyber-bullying. Schools have recently been in a constant battle to try to avoid and prevent cyber-bullying from occurring. Bullying can be defined as a prolonged mistreatment by a person who harbors malicious intentions and who is perceived to be more powerful than the victim of abuse (Hindu Patching, 2007). Face-to-face (FT) bullying can be carried out hectically, verbally or relationally (Woods Wolfe, 2004) (Swan Koori, 1). This definition is from a time before bullying moved to the platform of social networks on the internet. Social Medias like Faceable, Youths have now become one of the most used platforms to bully others. Boys bully more than girls according to statistics. With the networks allowing users to upload videos to their websites and tag others to it, many fights have been recorded and posted on the Media. These videos of fights have begun to lead to legal consequences involving the police and the school. It is aid that through social networks, where people are not face-to-face, people that who usually would not get involved in bullying of other do. This is a problem that has been being addressed, but there needs to be more done to prevent this issue from happening as often as it does. Business Practices Social Medias business practices sometimes annoy people. Because most of its revenue comes from advertisements and people dont want to see it on their news feed. Some people dont care, some people do. So the businesses use one persons ethical it is to use somebody information for taking the business to them. From the businesss perspective, they have to earn money and theres no policy against it so far to stop using private information. According to The New York Times (2012), Ads that pop up on your screen might seem useful, or at worst, a nuisance. But they are much more than that. The bits and bytes about your life can easily be used against you. Whether you can obtain a Job, credit or insurance can be based on your digital doppelgà ¤nger ? and you may never know why youve been turned down. People can hide their information by using privacy settings. But the problem is these sites mutinously changing its appearance and themes. So it gets changed, all the previous settings get changed with it as well. For many people it is really hard to keep track when to change the settings. So if they change their setting once they think it is safe but they dont realize that when the new theme s come up they have to change it again. So their information remains unprotected. For example, when Faceable introduced timeline, its features were similar to the old Faceable. But now every time someone changes their profile picture it automatically sets it up as public and people onto know about it. So anybody has access to it and can use it however they want, which is very crucial because bad people can harm others through cyber bullying using their pictures and there is hardly any way to figure out who did this. Recommendation At this backdrop it is really questionable whether Social Medias need to be criticized or appreciated. It has spread like virus. But some courses of actions like arranging awareness seminar, webzines etc. Would help people to understand and set their privacy.
